What Happens When That Happens?

I found myself wrestling with this question before the Lord—not out of doubt, but out of weariness. Have you ever been there? You’re sowing faithfully. Day after day, you’re showing up. Passionate. Consistent. Pursuing the will of God with everything in you. Yet when you look out into the field of your life—you see… nothing.

What happens to the farmer who rises early, who works the ground, who scatters seed, but season after season sees no fruit? Do you give up? Do you give in? Do you tap out and abandon the field? Or do you stay—diligent, faithful, steady?

Because here’s the reality no one really talks about: there is a discouraging side to sowing. The side where you see no sign of fruit, no grain, no harvest of any sort. Just a fruitless tree. An empty field. Silence where you expected growth.

But hear me—just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Growth always begins underground. Roots dig deep before fruit ever appears. The atmosphere must be right. The environment has to align. The season has to shift.

Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:9: “Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap, if you faint not.” 

And again in 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

So, then the question isn’t if you’ll see a harvest, but when.

And while you wait—your job is diligence. Faithful sowing. Stewardship without fainting.

Here are four truths that will anchor you in the waiting:

1. What is the seed you are sowing? Every seed carries identity. An apple seed will never produce wheat. Check your seed—are you sowing what God asked, or what you assumed?

   
   

2. What type of ground are you sowing in? Soil matters. Some ground is fertile. Some is shallow. Some is hard as cement. The condition of the ground determines how far that seed can go.

   
   

3. Is the environment primed for growth? Every seed requires a certain climate—sunlight, shade, water, pressure. The question is—have you cultivated the right atmosphere for the seed to actually grow?

   
   

4. What is the timing? Every seed has a season. Some sprout quickly. Others take years. Your role is to plant in the right time, so that the harvest aligns with God’s timing, not just your own expectation.

   
   

So, if you’re standing in front of what looks like an empty field, remember—what looks like nothing is never nothing. Underground, God is at work. In due season, the field will testify that your labor was never wasted.

Stay in the field. Keep sowing. Refuse to faint. Because harvest is coming.
