A reflection by Durell Brown

I was talking with a Verizon customer service representative when I noticed something she had missed. After I pointed it out, she laughed and said, "I'm embarrassed you caught that and I didn't." I told her not to be embarrassed. I reminded her that this conversation wasn't a failure—it was preparation. The next customer she helps will benefit from what happened with me. This moment becomes part of her experience. She'll recognize it sooner, ask better questions, and serve with greater confidence because of what she learned today. That made me realize something about life.

Life isn't a collection of

random moments. It's cumulative.

Every conversation teaches us something.

Every disagreement refines us.

Every mistake sharpens us.

Every success gives us confidence.

Every disappointment gives us perspective.

Nothing is wasted if we're willing to learn from it.

Too often we treat experiences as isolated events, judging them only by whether they went well or poorly. But life doesn't work that way. Each moment is carrying something forward into the next one.

The difficult conversation prepares you for the leadership opportunity.

The failure prepares you for the breakthrough.

The awkward interaction teaches you how to love people better.

The lesson from today becomes wisdom for tomorrow.

Growth isn't found in one defining moment. It's found in the accumulation of ordinary moments that slowly shape who we're becoming.

So don't be embarrassed by what you didn't know yesterday.

Just make sure today's lesson travels with you into tomorrow.

Because life is cumulative.
